Power corrupts

Bush challenges hundreds of laws
WASHINGTON -- President Bush has quietly claimed the authority to disobey more than 750 laws enacted since he took office, asserting that he has the power to set aside any statute passed by Congress when it conflicts with his interpretation of the Constitution.
But hey, by all means keep voting for this tyrannical douche bag. Way to think it through, America.

Busting out

Tempest in a D-cup as bust sizes grow
BEIJING (Reuters) - Bra producers have been forced to offer bigger cup-sizes in China because improved nutrition is busting all previous chest measurement records.

"It's so different from the past when most young women would wear A- or B-cup bras," Triumph brand saleswoman Zhang Jing told the Shanghai Daily from the Landmark Plaza of China's commercial hub.

"You...never expect those thin women to have such nice figures if they are not plastic."

The report, seen on the daily's Web site Tuesday, said that the Hong Kong-based lingerie firm Embry Group no longer produces A-cups for larger chest circumferences and has increased production of C-, D- and E-cup bras to meet pressing demand.

The Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology released a report last week saying the average chest circumference of Chinese women has risen by nearly 1 cm (0.4 inch) to 83.53 cm (32.89 inches) since the early 1990s, the daily said.

This phenomenon, it said, was due to women eating more nutritiously and taking part in more sport.

Thus falls the final barrier to Chinese world domination.

I wonder who has the job of measuring average chest circumference of Chinese women?

College bars students from posing for Playboy

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - Baylor University in Waco, Texas, which bills itself as the world's largest Baptist college, has threatened to discipline students if they pose for Playboy magazine, which is trying to recruit models from the college.

Playboy photographers came to Baylor's hometown seeking models for a photo spread on women of the Big 12 college athletic conference, of which the college is a member.

Baylor Vice President for Student Life Samuel W. Oliver sent an e-mail to students this week warning that any who "associate" with Playboy would be subject to the university's disciplinary processes.

"Playboy is clearly antithetical to Baylor's mission and associating with the magazine would be a violation of the code of conduct," Oliver wrote in the e-mail. University officials said punishment could include suspension.

Baylor, known for its conservative outlook, did not allow dancing on campus until 10 years ago.

A spokesman for Playboy, known for its nude centerfolds, declined to comment on the e-mail.

The threatened punishment was met with a yawn by students on campus.

One woman, who professed no desire to pose for Playboy, said Baylor officials had "more important things to worry about" and wondered if male students would face similar punishment if they were seen reading an issue of Playboy featuring Baylor women.

Good question!

Not for nothing

Patriotism is truth, today as in Vietnam
By John F. Kerry
True patriots must defend the right of dissent and listen to the dissenters. Dissenters are not always right, but it is always a warning sign when they are accused of unpatriotic sentiments by politicians trying to avoid accountability or debate on their own policies. We should know by now that those who are right should never fear scrutiny of their policy and thorough debate.

What You Can't Say

Moral fashions more often seem to be created deliberately. When there's something we can't say, it's often because some group doesn't want us to....

What can't you say? And why?

Too little, too late

Montgomery apologizes to Rosa Parks

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The City Coucil has a message for late civil rights icon Rosa Parks and other blacks who were mistreated in Montgomery during the 1950s: We're sorry.

The majority-white council voted unanimously Tuesday to make a formal apology to Parks, who died in October....

The Rev. Joseph Rembert, who was Parks' pastor before she left Montgomery following her arrest, said he was "elated" over the vote.

"It shows Montgomery has changed," he said.

Has it changed? Well, first of all, I don't always agree with holding people responsible for something that happened a long time ago. For instance, it doesn't make any sense to blame Germans today for the Holocaust. So I don't necessarily believe the current leaders of Montgomery owed Mrs. Parks an apology. But if you're going to apologize, don't wait until they die before you do it. That looks cowardly and weak, and it could be interpreted as evidence of lingering hatred/fear/ignorance. At least that's how it looks from my ivory tower up here in the enlightened Northeast.

Seriously?

Boston officers shoot at suspect who fled stop in stolen SUV
BOSTON --Police fired shots at a man who fled a traffic stop in a stolen sport utility vehicle, drove over a busy downtown sidewalk and then smashed into oncoming cars on one-way street Tuesday, police and witnesses said.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was shot once in the stomach and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital after the noontime chase that ended outside a Registry of Motor Vehicles office and an MBTA subway station, said Boston Police Superintendent Robert Dunford.

Four officers were taken to a local hospital to be examined, but Dunford said, "They're fine."

So many jokes here...were the officers upset? Out of breath? Did they accidentally shoot each other? At least they also brought the guy who was shot in the stomach to the hospital.

Sell out

# 1 Ang Lee

The biggest asshole of all time is Ang Lee because he made me enjoy a movie about gay cowboys. My life is still the same but everything feels different.

After seeing that movie, I feel weird as a man about going camping with my male friends. Now when we spoon hug in my tent to stay warm, I feel guilty. Now when we play naked leap frog, it's awkward. Every time I wake up with a used condom in my ass, I feel ashamed. Thanks a lot Ang Lee, you asshole!

Secret of Mona Lisa's Smile Revealed?

April 3, 2006— Hidden behind the Mona Lisa's enigmatic smile are millions of invisible dots, according to research presented this week at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy....

"He may have made one square millimiter a day. This means it might have taken Leonardo about 10 years to complete the Mona Lisa," Franck said.

Hard to believe, but if it's true that would explain why it's so small!

ATTLEBORO -- In a surprise move, Bishop Feehan High School head football coach Robb McCoy resigned his post after just one season because he fathered a child out of wedlock in apparent violation of a standard faculty contract at the Catholic school....

"It was not a voluntary resignation. I had the option of being fired or resigning," he said.

The Man stickin' it to The Man (that sounds gay)

Big Easy to Telcos: Stick It

A showdown may be looming over a free wireless internet network that New Orleans set up to boost recovery after Hurricane Katrina pummeled the city.

Calling the network vital to the city's economic comeback, New Orleans technology chief Greg Meffert is vowing to keep the system running as is, even if it means breaking a state law that permits its full operation only during emergencies.

Ha ha! Yeah, stick it, telcos!
