Whose side are we on?

I just caught a repeat of the Daily Show -- yes, this is where I get most of my news -- on which they discussed The U.S. Army/Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual, which is currently available on Amazon.com for ten bucks. One of the authors, Lieutenant Colonel John Nagl, explained that the manual was written because we are fighting an enemy that is able to learn and adapt, and we must be able to out-think as well as out-fight them.

Um, guys? Shouldn't the first step in out-thinking the enemy involve not selling them our counterinsurgency field manual?!

If it's going to be that kind of party

Bill Gates wants to get Microsoft more involved with supercomputing, so he delivered the keynote address. Based on this admittedly small sample, I'd say Bill's parties are a lot more entertaining than his keynote speeches . The Microsoft party was hosted at the Experience Music Project , which is right next to the Space Needle . Upon arrival, I quickly located the main stage, along with the most accessible bars and appetizer spawn points. While I was waiting for the main event I entertained myself at the Science Fiction Museum , which I enjoyed more than I care to admit. At 10 pm sharp Sheryl Crow took the stage. Get with the program

The first episode of Survivor: Panama: Exile Island aired last night. This season the gimmick is they've split the 16 contestants into four tribes to start out: older women, older men, younger women, and younger men (more on this later). After each reward challenge, the losing team has to leave one member behind to spend the night alone on Exile Island. The upside to this is that supposedly there is an immunity idol hidden on the island. Anyhoo, after five years and a dozen locations, Survivor is still your best destination for reality television. Oh I'm sure a lot of production-y stuff goes on behind the scenes, but toward the end of those 39 days, the contestants are beat-up, weathered and hungry. Some look downright emaciated. That's real. But you know what would be even more real than Survivor? Survivor in HD. Since I picked up my first HDTV last summer, I've been gratified to find more and more HD programming available.
